Bins Busted

BINS BUSTED

Landfill waste is turning into a bit of a problem. There's not much space left to put all of our rubbish. Some places are having to resort to burning the waste to get rid of it. They like to say that they are getting some electricity from the process, but really doesn't it seem like a big waste to burn all of this stuff that took so much energy and resources to make? We think it's better to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill in the first place and instead concentrate on the R's reduce, reuse, recycle etc. This quest is all about your bin and what you put in it.

Mrs Green cries into her bin

Sitting with a years worth of waste I was suddenly struck with the fact that long after I have gone, my rubbish will still be here. It was a sobering thought about consumerism and our current greedy lifestyle.

FAQ

What if the other people in the house don't want their rubbish weighed?

Can you just weigh your stuff by keeping it separate in your room and weighing it before you take it to the household bin??

I put more than one bin bag in my landfill bin what should I do?

Weigh each bag before you put it in the main bin. Don't forget to make a note of the weight somewhere.

Beware of

Extra heavy things

Don't shy away from putting things in the bin just because they are heavy and you are weighing it (unless they can be recycled or reused of course then what are you doing putting it in the landfill bin?).
